چکیده

The interest in recycled carbon fiber (rCF) is growing rapidly and the supply chain for these materials gradually being established. However, processing routes, material intermediates properties of rCF composites are less understood designers to adopt them into practice. This paper provides a practical pathway rCFs conjunction with low cost and, most part, commodity thermoplastic resins, namely polyethylene (PE), polyamide 66 (PA66) terephthalate (PET). Industrially relevant wet-laid (WL) process routes have been adopted produce mats using two variants WL mats, (a) high speed inclined wire broad good ‘roll’ forms (b) 3DEPTM patented by Materials Innovation Technologies (MIT)-recycled (RCF), now Carbon Conversions, which involves mixing fibers water depositing on water-immersed mold. These referred as ‘sheet’ forms. produced were evaluated their ‘fully consolidated mats’ ‘non-consolidated’ as-produced mats. Comprehensive mechanical data terms tensile strength, modulus impact toughness C/PE, C/PA66 C/PET presented. work value sustainable composite modelers.

Fiber Length and Orientation in Long Carbon Fiber Thermoplastic Composites

Carbon fiber composites have become popular in aerospace applications because of their lightweight yet strong material properties. The injection molding process can be used to produce discontinuous fiber composites using less time and resources than traditional methods, thereby broadening carbon fiber composites’ applications in different industries. Utilization of longer fibers offers more loa...

Fiber Orientation in Injection Molded Long Carbon Fiber Thermoplastic Composites

A set of edge-gated and center-gated plaques were injection molded with long carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites, and the fiber orientation was measured at different locations of the plaques. Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Insight (ASMI) software was used to simulate the injection molding of these plaques and to predict the fiber orientation, using the Anisotropic Rotary Diffusion an...

Influence of Interleaved Films on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon Fiber Fabric/Polypropylene Thermoplastic Composites

A laminated composite was produced using a thermoplastic prepreg by inserting an interleaved film with the same type of matrix as the prepreg during the lay-up process to improve the low interlaminar properties, which is a known weakness of laminated composites. Carbon fiber fabric (CFF) and polypropylene (PP) were used to manufacture the thermoplastic prepregs. Eight prepregs were used to prod...

Thermal Degradation, Mechanical Properties and Morphology of Wheat Straw Flour Filled Recycled Thermoplastic Composites

Thermal behaviors of wheat straw flour (WF) filled thermoplastic compositeswere measured applying the thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanningcalorimetry. Morphology and mechanical properties were also studied using scanningelectron microscope and universal testing machine, respectively. Presence of WF inthermoplastic matrix reduced the degradation temperature of the composites. One...
